Description
"Toxic Air Emissions from Wastewater Treatment Facilities", a joint effort of the Water Environment Federation and the American Society of Civil Engineers, was developed as a result of a workshop sponsored in 1989 by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Water Environment Federation (then Water Pollution Control Federation) on volatile organic compound emissions. The publication aims to provide managers and operators with a guide for identifying, quantifying, and controlling potential health effects that result from these emissions. Among the considerations affecting the development of programs appropriate to a facility are increased public awareness of toxic emissions and related air pollutants and regulation expansion. Besides the federal Clear Air Act (amended in 1990), additional regulations are expected to be promulgated at local, state, and federal governmental levels. Issues of emissions of toxic and related air pollutants from wastewater treatment facilities are addressed. They include: compliance with existing requirements; identification and quantification of toxic air emissions from wastewater treatment processes; participation in the development of future regulations by assisting involved regulatory agencies in collecting data to support reasonable regulation; and prevention and control of toxic emissions from wastewater treatment facilities. - from Amzon
